Tow Board

Wood may well be the perfect core for tow surfing boards. Many different timbers can be used. The board can be "weighted up" with one species of wood to reach a target weight depending on wave type. Alternatively the board core can be comprised of different types of wood to place the weight according to the required dynamics, for example heavier timbers on the rail for positive engagement and lighter timbers through the centre so that the overall weight target is met. The board featured on the left is built of solid Paulownia timber and was Custom ordered for open ocean wind prone tow surfing spots. Designed to generate and hold speed through smooth long distance carving turns. Note: the dimensions below correspond to the displayed board.

A Word From Roger

Wood has all the right attributes for Tow board surfing: inherent weight for momentum, drive and control. The natural buoyancy of wood holds an edge well and handles surface disturbance extremely well. Tow boards need to be tough and durable and a wood core is perfect for this.
